FAQ
Who are the team at ONYX?
We’re a company of filmmakers from Brisbane, some of us met at the Queensland University of Technology, others we met through the Film and TV scene in Southeast Queensland, from there a Brisbane based Film Production Company began to emerge. From job to job we also call upon a wide range of Film professionals from one man band Videographers to specialised crew roles to ensure we have the right person for the job.
How much does a commercial cost?
Have you heard about the remarkable diversity in string lengths? We have done small scale, 30 second corporate videos that cost a couple hundred dollarydoos, and we have done 30 second TV commercials that cost much much more. The real question is about how much value can we squeeze from each budget to get the maximum value and most importantly, achieve the aims of the product. It is all well and good to have a flashy corporate video or high intensity music video, but if the intention was a heartfelt clip about someone in your organisation that has gone above and beyond in their role, then the point is lost.
What is the difference between Videography and Commercial content?
For many Brisbane video production companies this can be a fine line, we define Videography as turning up on the day and hoping to create something great, this is usually the case with small corporate videos or event videography. Whereas with a commercial TVC you don’t hope it will be great, you know it will be great, because the time and effort has gone into pre-production, we have sourced the right equipment and gear, we have fine tuned the script and we have a shared vision of the end product.
Are videos needed for business?
Every business is different, therefore their communications and marketing needs are unique. Some B2B businesses don’t spend a cent on marketing videos or promotional content, however they invest heavily into training videos and internal content so that their staff are well trained and ready for whatever their role entails.
Social Media advertising is changing, the major networks are changing their algorithms to boost video content, as a result businesses that invest in social media videos have a better chance of having their content seen organically.
Another advantage of corporate video content is that it keeps working, whether it is on the website, on your social media pages or on the internal network as training videos, they can be accessed whenever needed and a properly produced video has a working life of several years.
Aren’t commercials just for TV?
Yes and No, when we refer to TVCs (Television Commericals) that is shorthand for high quality, top tier production value video content. Youtube, Facebook, ondemand, iview etc have not replaced traditional TV advertising but they still demand the same high quality content. The modern viewer in Brisbane has quite frankly become spoiled, they are bombarded with top tier commercials and that has become the standard. To see an ‘average’ video inbetween two TVC commercials stands out, in the same way a Toyota Highlander between a Ferrari and Porsche stands out, not that there is anything wrong with a Highlander, but by comparison it is visible. That is why producing high quality commercial content is so important in today’s saturated market.
What kind of equipment do you use?
We only use industry-standard Film and TV equipment but each job is different. Simple social media corporate videos can get away with just using a DSLR and solo operator, larger TVCs and Commercials require crews of camera and lighting assists, sound recordists in addition to a director and producer along with the top tier camera and lighting equipment that would you expect to see on a Hollywood production.
What services do you offer?
As Video production company we do pride ourselves on being able to deliver everything in house from simple solo shooter videography to large scale commercials requiring crew in both on set production and post-production. Our in house team of directors select the right crew for each job, for smaller businesses who want a large scale product but are not too versed in the intricate nature of film production with pre-production logistics, to then on set management to finally in the edit with input from animators, sound mixers, voice over recordings and colour grading, this can be daunting.
Which is why we consider ourselves a full video production company wherein all a client needs is a need for video, and we’ll do the rest.
How long does the Film and Video process take?
How long is a piece of string? We have had event Videography jobs that had a one day turnaround from shooting in the morning to delivering the final edit that evening, we have also done longer form projects such as documentaries and large scale marketing campaigns that took the better part of the year from the first meeting to the premiere. We are always willing to spend however much time it takes to create the perfect video.
What areas do you service?
We are a Brisbane based film and video production company however we do frequently travel interstate for jobs.
